Social Bookmarkology

I have been working on a guide to Social Bookmarking for a while, and was trying to come up with a name. During this process, I realized that the entire concept of using Social Bookmarking as a marketing strategy needed an easy to remember name. So, I decided to coin the phrase “Social Bookmarkology”. Of course, I checked the search engines to make sure it was a new phrase, and indeed it has never been mentioned before. So, although the guide is still in the final steps of completion, now you know what the heck I mean when I say Social Bookmarkology. My exact definition is “Social Bookmarkology: The concept of using social bookmarking as a marketing strategy”.

Web 2.0 Sites

I was on a great call yesterday that talked about Web 2.0 and the benefits of social exposure. Many people have different definitions of Web 2.0, including me. However, a great definition was given on the call that basically says that any website that would be an empty shell without user submitted content is Web 2.0. For example, YouTube would be nothing if users did not submit videos. So, in the spirit of sharing information, here are some Web 2.0 sites that you should be looking at and consider using to get more exposure. SpicyPage is a very simple social portal that allows you to vote on websites, blogs, etc. They have a neat plugin that you can use for your site that shows recent voters. You can see an example of this on my blog now. Reddit.com is similar to digg and has a very simple to use interface for voting on sites. MyBlogLog.com allows you to see who else is reading the blogs you read and who has similar interest. To find many more, check out the site Go2Web20.net and see all the Web2.0 sites there.
